Regional Science Museum in Guwahati

The Regional Science Centre is situated at Guwahati in Assam. It is a science museum which caters to the need of scientific inquiries of the children.The Regional Science centre situated at Khanapara in Kamrup district was established in 1994 with the aim to educate children regarding the impact of science and technology.

The major attractions of the museum are the like magic tap, the cliff lift, the fun mirror and the coalmine etc.

The museum preserves rare instruments, machinery and documents that are evidences of the role played by science for the benefit of mankind.There is prehistoric life park, children’s corner, Science Park, circular maze and bouncing balls among others.

One of the important features of the museum is that it imparts science education to the student community. To impart science education to students the museum organizes shows, camp, competitions and seminars.

Its Fun Science centre allows visitors to interact with 50 hands on science exhibits while the coal mine gives an in-depth knowledge of coal mining.   • The centre has a Cafeteria in the ground floor and visitors can enjoy their favourite dishes in the cafeteria.
  • An auditorium Hall with more than 150 seating capacity is also available in the science centre. Various programmes like Science Demonstration Lectures, Science Shows are held in the auditorium.
  • An air conditioned Conference Hall with more than 50 sitting capacity is also available. Educational Institutions can hire the hall for their use.
  • The centre also have a library which is only for internal use. The library has more than 10,000 books and journals.
  • The centre also provides picnic area for School groups. The centre also has provision for cooking and open dining.

Training Programme in Regional Science Centre

Teachers Training

Every year during summer holidays, Teachers Training programmes is conducted in the centre. Through these training courses the science teachers can learn how to make low cost teaching kits and also how to use these kits in class room teaching. Through their institutional heads, interested teachers can participate in this programme

Computer Training

Ever year on the basics of computers and their functions especially for house wives, senior citizens, and students Four numbers of computer training programmes are organized in the centre.

Quick Guides and facts

Except on Holi and Diwali the Centre remains open for visitors from 10-00am to 5-30pm daily. At 5.00 pm the ticket counter closes

Entry fee: Rs.10/- per person
Rs.5/ per Person (for organized student groups)   
(a letter from the Head of the Institute is mandatory)
Entry is free for the Police and Military personnel in uniform and the physically challenged and children below 5 years of age
