The planetarium is located in MG road near the Guwahati High Court in Guwahati.

Guwahati Planetarium Construction

The Guwahati Planetarium was inaugurated on August 17, 1994. The Guwahati Planetarium is constructed into dome shaped with sloping walls setting it apart from other planetarium designs. The Japanese Goto GX instrument is used in the planetarium. The GX starfield projector, the sky theatre's sound system and sixty special-effects projectors is included in the hardware. Goto also supplies the show software.

Guwahati Planetarium Facilities

The Guwahati planetarium is an important center for scientific research and astronomical studies. The primary aim of the Guwahati Planetarium is to reach the young minds inquisitive about science and universe and provide them with the requisite knowledge regarding the universe and astronomy. The planetarium organizes and conducts different programmes in an effort to educate the students and people about the universe and the mysteries it beholds. The Guwahati Planetarium witnesses an average footfall of 500 per day. The Planetarium hosts daily shows in English, Hindi and Assamese (regional language) at different timings. Workshops, seminars, and conferences for students and children are also organized by the planetarium from time to time. Many students from different institutions gather here at the planetarium for educational trips and to gain knowledge regarding astronomy and research.

Shows are also conducted for astronomy fraternity, exhibitions and quizzes for students and local people. The Planetarium puts out telescopes and astronomical devices during eclipses, for the public to view them. Experts conduct regular sky watching sessions at the planetarium. Special shows are also projected on a dome shaped overhead screen at the planetarium in English, Hindi and Assamese language. There is also a library facility available in the planetarium.

The Guwahati Planetarium hosts different shows in Assamese, Hindi and English with specific intervals. The different show timings of the planetarium are as follows:

English: 5 PM daily (Show timing may change from time to time)

Assamese: 12 PM-4 PM, 6 PM-7 PM daily (Show timing may change from time to time)
